What are bath bombs and what do they do?

What Are Bath Bombs?Bath Bomb Fizzing

Bath bombs are a popular bath additive typically made from a base of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and citric acid. These ingredients will cause the bath bomb to effervesce (fizz) when it is submersed in water. The reaction begins when the water allows the baking soda and citric acid powders to mix and react with each other. This is the same reaction that causes bread to rise or the vinegar & baking soda rockets that many of us made as children.

Bath bombs normally contain oils, extracts, scents, salts and/or colours to make your bath water colourful and beautifully scented. These ingredients can also help to moisturise and soothe your skin. Popular oils for bath bombs include coconut oil, olive oil, witch hazel, sweet almond oil. Cocoa butter and Shea butter are also popular bath bomb ingredients. There is a wide variety of scents available and these are either added with natural essential oils, or with perfumes and other fragrances.

Bath bombs are usually small and spherical, but they can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. We have small mini bath bombs around 4cm and also jumbo bath bombs up to 12cm. We have flower shaped bath bombs, heart shaped bath bombs, egg shaped bath bombs and even a bath bomb shaped like a beehive.
